Ugh, I’m sorry. What a mess. Phones are really the bane of 21st-c. parenting…. My kid’s only 6 so we’re not there yet, but I absolutely dread this stuff.
Don’t give them phones. It’s the worst thing we ever did. Now they’re just stuck in them. If I had to do it over again, I would have given them flip phones for emergencies.
We aren’t there yet, but I struggle with this too — our Kindergarten uses ipads for (reading) homework, which means screens are out and on way more than otherwise in our house. Why not assign reading homework from books? Ugh. I do think Academic Mamas has had some good ifno/threads about how to handle phones with older kids but I have no advice from personal experience.
